David Beckham recalled to English team

LONDON: David Beckham has been recalled to the England team for next Wednesday's friendly against European champion Spain. The Los Angeles Galaxy star, currently on loan to AC Milan, is in a squad of 23 going to Seville for the game.Although Beckham played as a late substitute in England's four World Cup qualifying victories, manager Fabio Capello dropped him for the team's friendly against Germany in November because he was not playing competitive soccer at the time.Beckham moved to Milan on loan and has said he would like to make the move permanent. If he plays against Spain, he will tie Bobby Moore's record 108 appearances for an outfield player.Meanwhile, the owner of the Galaxy says he has rejected Milan's initial offer for Beckham and expects the Italian club to come back with a much higher bid, or the midfielder will be back in L.A. next month.Tim Leiweke, chief executive of AEG which owns the team, told the Los Angeles Times on Friday that he would not consider an extended loan of the 33-year-old player to Milan, but he is willing to negotiate a purchase deal.Beckham, on a three-month loan to Milan to March 8, last week announced that he wants to stay with the team.If no deal is ultimately reached with the Italian club, Beckham has agreed to fulfil his contract with the Galaxy, Leiweke said
